Engagedly Goals and Objectives Module Overview

The ‘Goals’ module has four navigation pages.

  1. Dashboard
  2. Goals
  3. Org Goals &
  4. Import/Export

Dashboard

In the Dashboard, users will be able to view statistics for their own goals by clicking on My Dashboard, statistics for their team members (if they have any) by clicking on Team Dashboard, and statistics for the entire organization by clicking on Org Dashboard, if they happen to be site administrators.

How To Notify Users Without Goals?

As a manager, you can send notification to the team members who do not have any active goals. Just go to team dashboard and click on the statistic that shows ‘People without goals’.

Here you can see the list of your team members who do not have any active goals. Select the users that you want to notify to create active goals and select ‘Notify’.

The notification can include a customized message by the manager or you can use the default message.

As a site administrator, you can notify the users who do not have any active goal through the ‘Org Dashboard’.

Select the statistic that shows ‘People Without Goals’ and select the users that you want to notify to create active goals. Select ‘Notify’ and add your customized message to notify the users and send it.

You can also notify their managers by selecting the managers that you want to notify from the list of users without goals.

Goals

The ‘Goals’ page shows you the list of goals and their details based on the filter you’ve selected. There are three filters that you can choose the goals to be displayed from: My Goals, My Team and My Org.

My Goals – Selecting this filter, by default, displays the list of active goals that you can check-in the progress for. The filter icon on the top right corner of the page allows you to filter the list based on the status of the goal (Active or archived).

This also allows you to filter the list based on the goals that can be checked-in by you, assigned by you, cascaded by you and based on end date of the goal.

Note: You can view the goals as a list or as a grid.

My Team – Selecting this filter shows you the list of your team members and the number of their respective goals. You can further click on the number of goals for each user to see the details of their goals.

You can see the details of goals like the assigner, progress and end date of the goal. You can view the list either by the goals or by the users.

There are certain actions that you can perform on your team members’ goals: You can modify the ownership of the goal, delete the goal or archive it.

You can also choose to view the list of your team members in either list view or hierarchy view.

My Org – Selecting this filter shows you the list of members in your organization and the number of their respective goals. You can further click on the number of goals for each user to see the details of their goals.

Goals I Follow – Selecting this filter shows you the list of goals you follow.

You can follow a goal visible to you to get notifications on the check-ins and progress made on it. Select ‘Follow’ under the goal title after opening the goal.

Following high-level goals, notifies you about all the goals associated with them.

Note: You can’t follow your own goals or the goals you have assigned to others. 

My Secondary Team – Selecting this filter shows you the list of your secondary team and their goal details.

There are certain actions that you can perform on your organization members’ goals: You can modify the ownership of the goal, delete the goal or archive it.

You can also choose to view the list of members in either list view or hierarchy view.

You can add a new goal from this page by selecting ‘+New Goal’ on the top right end corner of the page. You can export your goals by selecting ‘Export Goals’ beside ‘+New Goal’.

How To Add A New Goal?

Click on ‘+New Goal’ on the top right end corner to create a new goal. Fill in relevant goal details like Title, Goal Information, Goal Notes, Start Date and End Date and Measurement Type etc.

Once you fill in the goal details, you can either assign or cascade the goal. While assigning the goal, you can assign it to yourself as well as multiple other people. After assigning the goal, you can add key results to the goal before publishing it.

Adding Key Results With Measurements

There are three types of key results that you can add to a goal. They are:

  • Quantity – The Quantity key result is based on an unit measurement type.
  • Percentage – The Percentage key result is based on percentage.
  • Milestone – The Milestone key result is not based on any quanity and is fulfilled by just checking a box.

You can also enable ‘Goal Categories’ through the ‘Categories’ page in ‘Settings’. You can add new categories by selecting ‘+Add’ on the page.

Measurement Types for Goals

Percentage

This is the default measurement type for every goal you create. When you choose Percentage, you can check in the goal progress in percentage.

When adding key results to a Percentage-based goal, you have the option to add three kinds of key results, either Quantity, Percentage or Milestone

Quantity

Selecting the Quantity Measurement Type allows you to select a unit type and then set a goal target based on that. Four unit types have been pre-added by Engagedly. The others are custom-created unit types. Once a unit type has been created, it cannot be removed.

When adding key results to a Quantity-based goal, you have the ability to add three kinds of results, Quantity, Percentage and Milestone.

Note:- Even when you add Percentage or Milestone key results to a Quanity-based goal, they will not have an impact on the overall progress of the goal. On the other hand, a Quantity key result which has the same unit type as the parent goal.

How To Add Contributors To A Goal?

Once you fill in the goal details, choose the Cascade option. Click on ‘Save and Cascade’ to proceed to the next part of the process. Once done, you will be redirected to a window, where you can add contributors to the goal. If you are cascading a goal that is Percentage-based, then you can ‘Enable Weighting’ to distribute the goal between contributors.

However, if you are cascading a goal that is Quantity-based, then you there is no option to enable weighting. Instead, you have to divide the quantity target between the contributors.

Click on ‘Done’ once you finish adding the contributors.

How To Align Your Goal To A Department/Org Goal?

You can align your own goal to department or organization goals. To align your own goals to a department or an organization goal, open up a goal you have created and select Align. A light box opens up and you can select any  one of the department goals or organization goals to align your goal to.

Goal Actions

In Engagedly, it is possible to share feedback about a goal, request feedback about a goal, or even publicly praise a goal. Click on a goal it will take you to the Goal Details page. On the top right corner of the page, there is a drop-down from where you can perform various actions.

For example, if you want to request feedback from someone, select ‘Request Feedback’ from the same drop-down.

You cannot share feedback about your own goal, but you can request feedback from others on your own goal.

Note: The Feedback feature is dependent on the settings in Engagedly’s main ‘Feedback’ module. If the module isn’t enabled, you cannot access this feature. 

Public Praise For Goal

Engagedly allows you to publicly praise a goal. To utilize this feature, select the goal and open its main page. On the top right corner of the page, there is a drop-down from where you can select ‘Public Praise’.

Once you publicly praise a goal, the praise will be shown on the feed with username, goal title and goal progress.

Checking-in on a Goal

To check-in on a goal, be it your own goal or a goal that has been assigned to you by someone else, click on the goal and then click on ‘Check-in’.

When checking-in on a goal, you can select ‘Incremental’ and any new check-in that is made will be added to the previous check-in. However, this feature is only available for quantity-based key results.

Org Goals

The ‘Org Goals’ page has the list of ‘Org Goals’ that have been created along with the goal details. This page also shows the list of Department Goals and Business Unit Goals with goal details like owner, start date, end date and progress.

How To Create An Org Goal?

To create an Org Goal, click on ‘+New Goal’ on the top right end corner of the page and select ‘+Org. Goal’. Add goal details, select the goal measurement type and you are good to go. Once done, click on Save. Your Org Goal is now ready and other goals can now be aligned to it.

How To Create Department Goal?

To create an Department Goal, click on ‘+New Goal’ on the top right end corner of the page and select ‘+Dept. Goal’. Add goal details, select the goal measurement type and you are good to go. Once done, click on Save. Your Department Goal is now ready and other goals can now be aligned to it.

Note: You can create department goals only for the departments that you are an admin for.

How To Create A Business Unit Goal?

To create an Business Unit Goal, click on ‘+New Goal’ on the top right end corner of the page and select ‘+Business Unit Goal’. Add goal details, select the goal measurement type and  then select the Business Unit for which you are creating the goal and click on Save. You are now good to go and other goals can be aligned to the Business Unit Goal.

Note:- In order to create a Business Unit Goal, you must first create Business Units and add members to it.

How To Align A Department Goal With An Org Goal?

Select a Department Goal that you want to align with an Org goal and click on it. If the selected goal has already been aligned with an Org Goal, you can see it on the right side of the page.

If not, select Align on the right side of the page and select the ‘Org Goal’ that you want to align your department goal with and select ‘Align’. Now the goal has been aligned!

How To Align A Department Goal With Business Unit Goal?

To align a department goal with business unit goal, go to the departmental goal and select align and select the business goal you want to align it with.

Import/ Export

In the Import/Export tab of the goals module, you can either export the existing goals in the organization or import new goals for the organization. You can also download the format for importing goals through this page.

Goal Cycles

How To Add Cycles To Goals?

You can add cycles to your goals. You can add new cycles through ‘Goal Settings’.

Goal setting software

Go to ‘Settings’, and select ‘Goal Settings’. Select ‘ Enable Preset Goal Settings’.

This will enable you to add cycles with details like Cycle name, Start date and End date.

When you enable a cycle, all the goals will use the same start date and end date as the cycle. If you want to be able to change the start date and end date for different users, select ‘Allow Custom Goal Cycles’ on the goal setting page.

You can also filter goals based on cycles. Though this feature is disabled by default you can enable it through ‘Goal Settings’ page.

Goal Hierarchy

In the Goals module, it is possible for a user to see how the hierarchy of a goal, providing it has been aligned to other goals. To view the hierarchy of a goal, click on the three-dotted line on the right-hand corner and select ‘View Hierarchy’. This will take the user to the goal hierarchy page.

On the Goal Hierarchy page, it is possible to click on an Organization Goal and have it expand to include the Business Unit goals, Department Goals, and Individual Goals that are aligned it.

Alternatively, if the user wants to view the goal hierarchy from the individual goal onwards, clicking on the number on top of the goal will show the goal that it is aligned to.

Similarly, to view contributors on a goal, click on the number at the bottom of the goal. The goal will expand to show the various contributors of a goal.
