Some major improvements have been made to the Goals module. These changes include introducing company and department goals that users can align their goals to, an all new goal creation interface etc.
UI Changes in Create New Goal
The user interface for the creation of a new goal has changed considerably. This new interface is meant to reflect the rest of the Goals module’s interface. The one major thing that has changed is that there’s no longer an ‘Assign To’ field. Instead, that has been replaced by the ‘Owner’ field.
This does not imply a change in the function of that field. It is just a change in terminology. This field essentially lets the goal creator decide who is the owner and the assigner of the goal ( them or their direct reports).
Goal Details
When you click on a goal that you have created, you will be redirected to the Goal Details page. There are a few new changes here that you need to take note of.
- It is possible to see the last date of when you checked-in.
- Goals can be edited from the Goal Details page. It is also possible to add contributors from here.
- Goals can be aligned to company goals or department goals from the Goals Details page.
- Attachments can be added from the Attachments section
- Key Results can be added to a goal from the Goal Details page.
- The discussion for the goal can be found here.
- When check-ins are made, they will be visible in the check-in history.
Company Goals/Department Goals
This is a new feature that has been on our roadmap for a really long time and we are happy to announce that we are finally rolling out this feature with this release.
We know it is important for employee goals to align to organizational goals and departments goals as well. By aligning goals to higher goals, it becomes easy to give goals a sense of purpose and also helps employees see that they are a part of a larger initiative.
Creating Company Goals
Only site administrators can create company goals. Creating a company goal is fairly similar to creating a new goal. To create a company goal, go to the Company Goals tab and click on ‘+Company Goal’. The company goal creation page opens up. Fill in all the relevant details here and then click on Save.
Once a company goal is created, goal creators and assigners will then be able to align their goals to the company goal.
Creating Department Goals
Department goals can be created only by department administrators. To create a department goal, go to Company Goals and click on “+Dept. Goal’. Fill in the necessary details and then click on Save. Once the department goal has been saved, it is then possible to align a department goal to a company goal.
To align a department goal to a company goal, click on the newly created goal. You will find ‘ALIGN’ on the right side of the page. Click on align and the goals alignment pop-up opens. Select the goal you want to align your goal with and then click on align.
Adding Department Administrators
Administrators can add department administrators from the Organization Chart which can be accessed through My Space.
On the Organization Chart, go to Departments. Here a list of all the departments in the organizations are visible. When you click on a department, it expands and you can all the users who are a part of the department. To make a user a department administrator, just click on the ‘Mark as dept. Administrator’ icon.
Department administrators can not only create administrator goals, they can also remove users from a department and mark others as department administrators.
This feature main function has to do with the addition/editing of department goals. Department administrators can only create goals for the departments they belong to.
Adding contributors and key results
Once a goal has been created, it is then possible to add contributors to it as well as key results. To add a contributor or a key result, go to the My Goals page and click on the goal in question.
The goal details page opens. To add a key result, click on ‘+ADD KEY RESULT’ and add the key result. Once a key result has been added, you can add weighting to it by clicking on ‘MANAGE WEIGHTING’. Engagedly will not restrict the value of your weighting in any way. This is because once a goal has been aligned to an organization goal or a department or goal, the weighting can further change.
Aligning employee goals to company/department goals
To align a goal to a company goal, go to the My Goals page and click on the goal in question. The goal details page opens. On the right corner, you can see ‘ALIGN’. Clicking on that button opens up the company and department goals alignment page. To align the goal to a company goal, select the goal you want to be aligned to and then click on ‘Align’.
You can only align an employee goal to one company or department goal. If at any time you chose to remove the goal’s alignment to the company goal, it will not change the employee goal’s progress, however it will affect the company or department goal’s (that you have aligned to) progress.
Aligning a department goal to a company goal
On the department goals page, click on the ‘Align’ button and you will see the list of company goals to choose from to be aligned to.
Department goals are separated according to the departments they belong to. You can only align a department goal to one company goal. This goal alignment can be removed at any time. Similar to employee goals, on removing alignment, the progress of the department goal remains unchanged. However, it affects the progress of the company goal to which it was aligned.
Goal Alignment and Hierarchy
Users can view the goal alignment and hierarchy for a goal from the My Goals page. To view a goal’s hierarchy, click on the hierarchy icon. If a goal is aligned to an organization goal, that will be displayed in the Goal Hierarchy as well.
To view a goal’s alignment, click on the alignment icon. This will display the overall organization/department goal that the goal is aligned to.
Enabling the Company Goals and Import and Export feature
